Bath
Despite being a relatively small and quiet city, Bath has excellent restaurants and a good nightlife. There are many historical sites for visitors, from the ancient Roman Baths, to the 18th Century Crescent, Circus and the Pump Rooms. These are complemented by the new Thermae Bath Spa, which despite the long wait for its completion has developed an excellent reputation. There are many excellent museums, including The Jane Austin Centre, The Museum of East Asian Art, The American Museum and Gardens, The Holburne Museum of Art and the Victoria Art Gallery.
Shops include high street favourites alongside boutiques and gift shops as well as some excellent markets.
For those looking for something more active, Bath Boating Station hires boats to explore the river and those wanting a cycle ride or a walk can follow the easy trail into Bristol.
The beautiful countryside around Bath is easy to explore. There are loads of places to go walking and biking – villages worth visiting include Castle Combe and Lacock, while there are also the more well known sites of Stonehenge and Avebury.
