Bristol

Bristol is a quirky, vibrant city with loads of things to do and see. The historic part of the city is based around the Waterfront, where art galleries include the Arnolfini and the Watershed, boat trips can show you the sites of the harbour, including the SS Great Britain, and there are many excellent restaurants serving a wide mix of food. For children there is Explore at Bristol, an interactive science exhibition which is well worth a visit.

Shopping areas include Broadmead, and the Park Street/Triangle area, where there is also the city museum. In addition to its wonderful permanent exhibition, this has regular visiting exhibitions including the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

For those looking for something more active, Bristol is surrounded by beautiful countryside. You only have to cross the Clifton Suspension Bridge to visit both Leigh Woods and Ashton Court where there are a network of excellent walking and biking trails. Close to Clifton, the Downs offer space for rugby, football, running and lazy afternoons in the sun.
