Devon
Like Cornwall, Devon has many excellent surfing beaches, including Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton Sands. On the south coast, the sailing centres around Salcombe, where boat trips around the estuary and surrounding coastline may provide the opportunity to see dolphins and basking sharks and migrating birds. Eggesford Forest with its population of wild deer is great for anyone interested in wildlife and Exmoor has the famous wild ponies as well as being home to many species of plants, birds and animals.
Inland there are many beautiful towns and villages to visit. Holsworthy and Hatherleigh are great bases for activities such as cycling, rambling, horse riding or fishing, while South Molton is worth a visit if you are interested in arts or antiques and Totnes, the second oldest borough in England, has its own castle. Opportunities for walking include the Tarka Trail, Templer Way and Two Moors Way on Dartmoor as well as the South West Coastal Path which passes through Exmoor.
Horse riding is popular, especially on Exmoor, and at Woolacombe, where you can even ride along the beach!
